Man Bitten At A Walmart Garden Center
Man Bitten At Walmart By Poisonous Pygmy Rattler

When I first saw this headline, I wondered by what!
The fact that it was a pygmy rattle snake is even more horrendous!
A 42 year young shopper who was in the Walmart Garden Center, in Pembrooke Pines, Florida, was bitten on the hand. He has received antivenin .
What the article didn’t say was…did they get the snake and what was a pygmy snake doing in the Walmart Garden Center? That Walmart is not in the country! Highly suspicious in my book!
Some facts about The Pygmy Rattler
The Dusky Pygmy Rattlesnake is indigenous throughout the state of Florida. The species extends north to eastern North Carolina and west to eastern Texas and southern Missouri. Quite the traveler!
Habitat: This snake is commonly found in lowland pine flatwoods, prairies, around lakes and ponds, and along the borders of many freshwater marshes and cypress swamps. Possibly the habitat in which Dusky Pygmy Rattlesnakes are most frequently encountered, at least in south Florida, is the banks of canals running through marshes and prairies. Notice I did not state Walmart Garden Centers. As we are encroaching on their habitat I guess they are encroaching on ours!
Comments: This small snake has a reputation for being very aggressive. Its bite, while usually not life threatening, is extremely painful and can result in the loss of a digit. Some cases can be fatal. It feeds primarily on frogs and mice, not people.
Good snake~bad snake you decide…Me, I do not like snakes!

I am surprised it does not happen more often. If you live from North Carolina to Florida these small rattle snakes will get into potted plants and ferns (even at your own home). The plants at Wall Mart come from large garden centers and I can assure you that the plants are not checked to see what is coiled up inside the leaves. The Wall Mart could be in downtown Atlanta.
