At 9AM, EST, Senator Edward Kennedy began surgery at
Duke University Medical Center, in Durham North Carolina.

Performing the operation will be one of the nation’s top neurosurgeons, Dr. Allan Friedman, known as “one of the thought leaders” and a giant in the field of neuro-oncology and assisting him, Senator Kennedy and his wife Vicki, have chosen a team of neuro~oncologists from Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital and Duke University Medical Center

.

The Senator, who is 76 years young, was diagnosed last month with a malignant glioma, a lethal type of brain tumor.

With this type of radical procedure, the surgeons will most likely try to remove as much of the tumor as possible while balancing the risk of harming healthy brain tissue that affects movement and speech.

Senator Kennedy will remain at the North Carolina facility for one week to recuperate and then will begin further treatments at Massachusetts General Hospital and start chemotherapy.

I will keep you posted in the recuperation of Senator Kennedy and hope that with me you will include him and his family in your prays as our Nation awaits his recovery.
